As part of SAMPLE, an exhibition we curated at the Lighthouse (Scotland’s centre for design and architecture), we invited the public to a trend experience for one evening only. Together with photographer Susan Castillo, we created five stop-animations reflecting the following trends: Chiaroscuro, Earthly Paradise, Cut and Paste, Emotional Landscape and Remembered Dreams. These short videos were accompanied with bespoke-made perfumes and drinks to match each theme.

Filling the whole of Gallery 1 at The Lighthouse, with printed textiles and sculptural displays of large-scale fabrics in an immersive, interactive exhibition. We focused on specially commissioned work around five key trends - highlighting the vibrancy, versatility, and too-often overlooked talent pool of textile design in Scotland.

Senses were used to create a fully immersive and interactive experience. We invited the public to watch a projection overlaid on dancers in front of the screen, and to smell the different perfumes on paper strips. Cocktails were specially mixed to match the scents and further consolidate smell with taste, whilst the public mingled and got to know one another. This allowed sight to mix with smell, touch, hearing, and taste.

SAMPLE also showcased specially commissioned pieces from 15 current or past members of Collect Scotland:

Lorna Brown, Susan Castillo, Alice Dansey-Wright, Joanna Dixon, Rachel Duckhouse, Hazel Dunn, Yvonne Elliott-Kellighan, Chloë Highmore, Vanessa Hindshaw, Lyndsay Mackie, Mhari McMullan, Ruth Mitchell, Marie O'Connor, Marion Parola and Natasha Samasuwo.
