Denny Public Art Project

Bespoke surface artwork on a staircase in Denny, 2021

Project Summary:

Community Engagement

Pattern Design

Project Management

Installation

Designs were created to be sandblasted into caithness stone for the landings of a newly installed staircase in Denny town centre.

The patterns were inspired by the circular nature of the history of the town
and its surroundings. The agricultural and natural focus of the town was transformed into an industrial centre for paper making, calico and metal works. Denny now once again celebrates its natural surroundings and the story of the towns evolution can be told through the artworks.

Working closely with local businesses, Community Green Initiative, Falkirk archive and Denny and Dunipace Heritage Group we gathered historical and current research. We hosted a number of community events throughout the project to encourage participation through insights, ideas and design feedback.
