The Vale of Leven Hospital Oncology Department commissioned us to rethink their interiors, aiming to create a calming and welcoming environment for patients using pattern and colour. Taking inspiration from maps of the local area, we created designs for furniture, light boxes and wallcoverings.

When coming in, patients should feel welcome and relaxed. Each treatment chair has a name relating to a specific local town to celebrate Scotland and promote a feeling of identity and point of discussion. We also created a series of light boxes to supply subdued lighting, creating a relaxing, peaceful atmosphere as well as a series of takeaway objects for patients such as silk scarves.

The textile design that we created was influenced by maps and local landmarks that we digitally printed on to an NHS approved specialist fabric. We supplied new furniture as well as utilising some of the existing chairs from the department. Each chair has its own unique design, allowing patients to pick which area of the map they wish to sit on, encouraging playfulness and distraction.
